Stuart Smith
is an avid paddler, paraglider, snow-boarder, mountaineer, and a general outdoor enthusiast.
His paddling career began in the late 70's in an open canoe.
He has paddled extensively in every imaginable craft, competing at
Provincial, National, and International levels.
He has also travelled and paddled extensively,
completing hundreds of first descents in Canada, Europe, Mexico, Asia, the United
States, and Central America.

When not working on another book, working for the Whitewater
Kayaking Association of BC, or writing, he loves to paddle at a world-class
level, exploring new, unrun rivers, and wild places.
Stuart is an enthusiastic teacher, helping people enjoy racquet sports, diving,
canoeing, rafting, kayaking, paragliding, and river safety. He volunteers
for the provincial and national paddling associations, as well as for the local
paddling club.
Stuart writes for several outdoor magazines, and occasionally even
finds an application for his Botany education.
